BOSTON (CBS) – After nearly hitting .400 for the month of June, Boston Red Sox infielder Jose Iglesias has been named the American League Rookie of the Month.
The slick-fielding infielder hit .395 (34-for-86) with four doubles, a pair of triples and one home run in June, adding six RBI and 17 runs scored for Boston. In 25 games, Iglesias tallied 11 multi-hit games, and had a career-best 18-game hitting streak from May 27th to June 18th.
During the streak, Iglesias hit .422, going 27-for-64.
Among qualifying rookies, Iglesias was first in batting average, OBP (.453), base hits and runs scored.

Iglesias, 23, is the first Red Sox rookie to claim the award since teammate Jacoby Ellsbury in September 2007.
