Police Identify 83-Year-Old Victim In Salem Hit-And-Run

SALEM (CBS) -- Salem Police have identified the elderly woman who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver Saturday morning.

The crash happened around 9 a.m. near Loring Avenue and took the life of 83-year-old Feliksa Mieszczansk of Salem.

Mieszczansk was crossing Loring Avenue to dump a bucket of weeds on a compost pile, according to her godson, Waldek Prochorski. Witnesses said the driver of the car that hit Mieszczansk did not stop after the collision.

Police are looking for a small, dark Honda or Mazda that left the scene of the crash. The car likely has front-end damage and possible windshield damage, according to police.

Prochorski said his godmother would have forgiven the driver who struck her but would have wanted to see "justice done."

"A person like that, especially leaving an accident like that, should probably not be on the street," Prochorski said.

Anyone with information about the incident can contact the Salem police.
