Judge Scolds Whitey Bulger For Swearing At Trial Witness

BOSTON (AP) — James "Whitey" Bulger has been admonished by a judge at his racketeering trial after a prosecutor reported that Bulger used an expletive when calling a witness testifying against him "a liar."

Former FBI Agent John Morris was testifying Thursday when Bulger apparently muttered the remark. Bulger stared intently at Morris as he testified.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian Kelly said Bulger "spent his entire life trying to intimidate people," but "he should not be doing that in federal court."

Judge Denise Casper said she did not hear the remark but told Bulger his lawyers are to speak for him.

Morris, who has admitted taking payoffs from Bulger, described meeting with Bulger and his partner as informants.

He said he recommended excluding them from a race-fixing indictment because of their value as informants on the Mafia.

Bulger denies being an informant.
