Firefighters Extinguish Blaze At Vacant Dorchester Home
BOSTON (CBS) -- Firefighters battled a blaze Sunday afternoon at a vacant home in the Dorchester neighborhood of the city.
At about 5 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to 271 Hancock St. after the report of a fire at a three-story, wooden-frame home, according to the Boston Fire Department. When fire crews arrived, smoke was billowing from the home, then fire could soon be seen tearing through the roof.
At 5:30 p.m., firefighters were ordered out of the structure's attic and a second alarm was sounded.
The home sustained heavy smoke and fire damage to the third floor, attic and roof. Fire department officials estimated the damage at $350,000. No one was reported injured.
Fire officials are investigating the cause of the blaze.
