Top Prospect Bogaerts Promoted To Pawtucket

BOSTON (CBS)  - Red Sox top prospect Xander Bogaerts is making his way up Boston's minor league system.

The shortstop was promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday, and will join the PawSox for their game against Buffalo at McCoy Stadium.

Bogaerts had a stellar year in Double-A Portland, batting .311 with 12 doubles, six triples, six home runs and 35 RBI in 56 games.  In his 10 games in June prior to Thursday's call-up, Bogaerts was batting at a .424 clip.

The 20-year-old has ranked atop Boston's prospect list since the team signed him as an international free agent in 2009. He was named the club's Minor League Offensive Player of the Year in 2012, batting .307 with 20 home runs, 81 RBI and 37 doubles in 127 games between Single-A Salem (104 games) and Double-A Portland (23 games).

For his minor league career, Bogaerts is batting .298 (359-for-1204) with 45 home runs and 204 RBI in 319 games.
