Boston Officer Hurt In Confrontation With Man Armed With Pellet Gun

BOSTON (AP) — Police say a Boston officer has been injured following a confrontation with a 54-year-old man armed with what turned out to be a pellet gun.

Authorities say state troopers and city officers responded to a 911 call at about 9 p.m. Wednesday for reports of a man with a gun in South Boston.

Police say the man, later identified as Kenneth Connelly, did not comply with repeated requests to show his hands, and instead raised a weapon and fired.

At least one officer returned fire, striking Connelly.

Police say Connelly was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

One Boston officer was struck by a pellet.

Police recovered two pellet guns in the area.

The Suffolk district attorney's office is investigating the use of force.
