Passerby Credited With Saving Passenger's Life In Fiery Barnstable Crash

BARNSTABLE (CBS) – A passerby is being credited with saving a woman from a burning car in Barnstable.

Police say Wednesday around 6 p.m., the driver of the car slammed into a telephone pole and took off running.

A passerby managed to pull out woman passenger who was trapped in the car as it burst into flames.

As that was going on, police say an off-duty officer who happened to be in the area saw the driver running into the woods.

He was able to chase down the driver, who has not yet been identified.

The woman pulled from the car was flown to an area hospital with burns to her upper body.

The driver was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries. Police say charges are pending.
