BOSTON (CBS) – The nation’s biggest Islamic advocacy group, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), is now demanding answers surrounding last week’s shooting death of Ibragim Todashev at the hands of FBI agents. The group is asking the Department of Justice division to open a formal probe into how Todashev died.
The medical examiner has labeled the 27-year-old’s death a homicide.
An FBI agent and two Massachusetts state troopers questioned Todashev for hours in his Florida apartment last week.
The FBI has said that they shot Todashev when he became violent and lunged at them with a knife, a claim the CAIR denies. Law enforcement sources told the Washington Post that Todashev was not armed when he was killed.
The FBI was asking about his connection to a drug-related triple murder in Waltham two years ago.
Investigators think Todashev and marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev may have had something to do with those killings.
