Middlebrooks, Victorino Placed On 15-Day DL

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Red Sox have officially been hit by the injury bug.

Shane Victorino left Monday's game due to hamstring tightness, and Will Middlebrooks left Thursday's game due to back spasms. On Friday, both were placed on the 15-day disabled list, with Victorino's move retroactive to May 21.

The Red Sox have called up infielder Jose Iglesias and right-handed reliever Alfredo Aceves to fill the roster spots left vacant by Middlebrooks and Victorino.

The team also activated catcher David Ross off the seven-day concussion disabled list and optioned catcher Ryan Lavarnway to Triple-A.

Iglesias' recall comes after he was used at third base earlier this week for the first time in his professional career. He'll bat ninth and play third base on Friday night against the Indians. He hit just .202 in Triple-A this season after starting the year in the majors and batting .450 in limited plate appearances.
