Bill Belichick Falls Out Of Top Spot On Forbes' Highest Paid Coach List

BOSTON (CBS) - Bill Belichick's two-year run as the highest paid coach in U.S. sports has come to an end.

Forbes put out their list of "Highest Paid Coaches in U.S. Sports" on Wednesday, and the Patriots head coach is now tied for second, making $7.5 million annually, along with new Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.

"Belichick is arguably the NFL's best tactician, evidenced by the fact that the Patriots have won 72.6% of their games and made five trips to the Super Bowl since he took over in 2000. Sean Payton's new contract brings an end to Belichick's two-year reign as the highest-paid coach in American sports and his three-year run as highest-paid in the NFL," the magazine writes.

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton is now the highest paid coach in sports, with an annual salary of $8 million.

Belichick isn't the only Boston sports head coach to crack the Top 10 though, with Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers tied at fourth at $7 million annually with a trio of NFL head coaches -- Seattle's Pete Carroll, St. Louis' Jeff Fisher and Washington's Mike Shanahan.

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin ($6.67 million), new Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly ($6.5 million), and San Antonio Spurs head coach Greg Popovich ($6 million) round out the Top 10.

Belichick also placed second in 2010, behind then-Los Angeles Lakers head coach Phil Jackson, before taking over the top spot in 2011 and 2012.
