Report: Spikes Not Present At OTAs, But Will Attend June Minicamp

BOSTON (CBS) -  New England Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes will not participate in the team's organized team activities (OTAs) this week, but is expected to report to a three-day minicamp in June.

The Boston Herald's Jeff Howe reports that Spikes has been working out on his own this off-season -- his preference -- and the absence from the voluntary OTAs has nothing to do with his contract -- which is up after the 2013 season.

Howe also notes that Spikes is healthy, so the absence doesn't appear to be injury related.

Spikes had a breakout year in 2012, his third season in the NFL, setting new career highs with 92 tackles, five forced fumbles and his first career sack. He stayed relatively healthy, seeing action in 15 games,
