Boston Bombing Survivor Tries To Focus On The Positives During Long Recovery

BOSTON (CBS) - One of the five Boston Marathon bombing survivors who remain in area hospitals one month after the attacks says he is staying positive despite a long road to recovery.

Mark Fucarile of Stoneham is the lone remaining victim at Mass General Hospital.

Fucarile was with a group of friends from Stoneham when he lost his leg in the second explosion.

"Things like this can make you look at people in a negative way but then from what I'm receiving from support, from prayers," he said.

In the month he's been hospitalized, Fucarile is anxious to get on with his life, but he credits his family and friends with keeping him going.

"I just want to get back to being normal; get back to living life with my girl and my son and planning our wedding," he said.

As Marc looks ahead to the future, he's determined to walk out at his wedding to greet his fiancee.
In the meantime, Mark's brother has put off his own wedding so that Mark can stand as his best man when he's recovered.

Mark's sister Stephanie Baron is among those who are there every day.
"It's a marathon, unfortunately, not a sprint," she said. "It's going to be a long road for him."

Stephanie said with surgeries almost every day they don't know when Mark can go home - or if he'll even be able to keep his other leg.

As for justice, Fucarile said he only cares about preventing another tragedy.

"Just get information from these people and stop it from happening again," he said. "Don't let it happen to other people."
