Lowell Father Accused Of Severely Beating His 2-Month-Old Boy

LOWELL (CBS) -- A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged with severely beating his 2-month-old son, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.

On Saturday, police officers, firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to 215 Mammoth Road in Lowell after a report of an unresponsive 2-month-old boy at the home.

The infant was taken to Lowell General Hospital then transferred to Tufts Floating Hospital for Children. His injuries are not consistent with accidental trauma, the DA said in a prepared statement.

The boy remained hospitalized Sunday in critical condition.

The infant's father, Christopher Berry, 22, of Lowell, was arrested and charged with assault and battery on a child causing substantial bodily injury, according to the DA. He faces arraignment Monday in Lowell District Court.

State police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office and Lowell Police are investigating the incident.
