12-Year-Old Boy Struck, Killed By Van In Allston

ALLSTON (CBS) – A 12-year-old boy was struck and killed by a van in Allston Thursday morning, Boston Police told WBZ-TV.

It happened around 6:45 a.m. on Cambridge Street, near Brighton Avenue and North Beacon, close to the Jackson Mann School.

The van struck the unidentified child as he was crossing the street. There is no crosswalk in the immediate area.

The van is registered to Aegis Energy Services of Holyoke. A manager told WBZ-TV's David Robichaud his driver said "a kid ran in front of my van."

There was a backpack in the road and blood on the pavement.  The boy was rushed to St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Brighton where he died from head injuries.

A woman said to be a relative of the boy collapsed at the scene when she arrived.

Police provided no other details.  Officers shut down the street for their investigation.

There's no word yet if the van driver will be charged.

The boy was a student at St. Patrick's school in Roxbury, the archdiocese confirmed to WBZ.
