BPD Auctioning Autographed ‘Boston Strong’ Bruins Jersey To Benefit Officer Richard Donohue

BOSTON (CBS) — The Boston Police Department continues to raise money for injured MBTA Police Officer Richard Donohue, and they’re now getting an assist from the Bruins.

The BPD is auctioning off an authentic Boston Bruins jersey with the words “Boston Strong” and the numbers “617” on the back. The jersey has been signed by every member of the team.

The jersey was donated to Officer Jennifer Penton, and it’s being auctioned now, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Richard Donahue Fund. Its estimated value, according to the auction page, is “priceless.”

Donohue was injured in the gunfight in Watertown with Boston Marathon bombing suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. He sent a message last week, thanking supporters during his time in the hospital.

“I am told that when I arrived at the hospital I had almost no blood and no pulse, and the team of medical experts at Mount Auburn miraculously brought me back to life,” Donohue said. “I am now awake, moving around, talking, and telling jokes (much to my Wife’s dismay). I am able to walk briefly through the use of a walker. My pain varies day to day and I still have a long road of rehab and recovery ahead, but I am optimistic I’ll recover back to 100%.”

You can bid on the jersey on BiddingForGood.com, and donations can be sent via OfficerRichardDonohue.com. The auction will run until May 11, and the winner will get 50 percent off the cost of framing at Copley Art & Framing.
