Man Killed In Salem House Fire

SALEM (CBS) – One man is dead after fire broke out at a multi-family home on Beacon Street early Sunday.

Firefighters were called to the home around 3:30 a.m. and found heavy fire coming from a second floor window.

Salem Fire Department says a 53-year-old man was found dead in the apartment where the fire started.

There were no working smoke detectors on the second floor, fire officials said.

Firefighters from several North Shore communities were called to help.

The Red Cross is assisting one person displaced from the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The victim’s name has not yet been released.
