Throngs of folks from all over the world have visited the memorial that is located at Copley Square in Boston near the site of the Boston Marathon day bombings. The response from international visitors is overwhelming, as is the reaction of locals who cannot believe that this could happen in their back yard.
The somber installation is comprised of shrines made from objects that evoke intense response. It includes a wall of running shoes, a display of ball caps, and four memorial crosses.
The mood at the memorial is very serious and emotions range from feelings of violation, to empathy for victims, to deep dark anger.
I spoke to a number of individuals at the site to give those who wanted a chance to articulate their feelings about the events related to the bombings and how they have affected them.
