Watertown Family Credits Dog With Saving Them From Fire

WATERTOWN (CBS) - A Watertown family that managed to escape from an overnight fire says if it weren't for the dog, they may not have made it out alive.

Rose Leal says the entire family was asleep in their home on Belmont Street around 1:30 a.m. when the dog started barking, and woke up her 8-year-old daughter.

"The dog barked and she woke up and she saw the fire. She woke us up," Leal said.

Leal, her husband, her 10-year-old son, her eight-year-old daughter, and the dog all managed to escape.

Leal said the family lost everything, but they're okay, thanks to that dog.

"(The dog) saved our lives," she said.

Red Cross is helping out the family.
