CAMBRIGDE (CBS) – An area behind a Cambridge business was searched Monday in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings.
Cambridge Police and the FBI were in the area behind the Yayla Tribal Rugs store at the corner of Broadway and Elm Streets. The store is just a few blocks away from the Norfolk Street apartment where Tamerlan Tsarnaev lived.
Witnesses say the suspects’ father, Anzor Tsarnaev, used to work on cars behind the building. Investigators had a blue tarp up blocking the view of the back alley on Monday afternoon. A man leaving the rug store said he knows Anzor and that the search had nothing to do with his business.
Tahar Adel works in the repair shop across the street. He says Tamerlan and his father would ask to borrow tools. “He worked with his father, he helped his father before a mechanic. When they have a big job he helped him,” said Adel.
“I saw him,” Abdel Ayed, a customer of Adel’s. “I saw him in the mosque a few times. He used to come, but he used to be very quiet guy. Very calm he would just pray and leave right away and not talk to anybody.”
People who work in the area tell WBZ-TV they have seen both bombing suspects, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, at the location in the past. They said, however, that they hadn’t seen the pair around recently.
Authorities have not said what they are searching for or what they took from the scene Monday.
