Worker Killed At Massachusetts Department Of Transportation Facility

NORTHAMPTON (CBS) — One worker is dead and two others injured after an incident at a local Massachusetts Department of Transportation property, the state police said.

At about 10:05, troopers assigned to the state police barracks in Northampton were dispatched to 811 North King St. to investigate a report of three workers trapped under a “portable construction housing unit.”

Two of the workers were extricated but a third suffered fatal injuries, the state police said.

The North King Street facility is home to the DOT’s District 2 office, which serves more than 50 communities including Holyoke, Northampton and Springfield.

The Hampshire Franklin County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the incident.
