Boston Marathon Runners Invited To Finish Race At UMass

AMHERST (AP) — Runners who were unable to complete the Boston Marathon are being invited to cross a symbolic finish line at the University of Massachusetts' spring football game.

Coach Charley Molnar, an avid runner, says he wants those who trained for the event to be able to celebrate their achievement. The race was stopped after the bombings near the finish line that killed three people and injured more than 170.

The school is having the runners take a lap around the field at halftime on Saturday, wearing their marathon bibs, and cross a finish line that will set up at the 50-yard line. Each will receive a gift from the school.

Runners can register by email. The school will also put their names on the video board.

Runners wishing to register are asked to send an email to the football program's administrative assistant Joanne Chauvin at jchauvin@admin.umass.edu
