Three-Year-Old Found Unconscious In Wareham Pond

WAREHAM (CBS) - A 3-year-old autistic child who wandered away from a family member at the Lakeside Trailer Park on Tuesday is in critical condition after being found unconscious in Dick's Pond, Wareham Police said.

At about 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, emergency workers were dispatched to No. 14 Lakeside Trailer Park to investigate a missing child report. The girl's grandmother, Valerie Navarro, told officers the 3-year-old, Alyvia Navarro, had "wandered from her care" and had been missing for 25 minutes, police said.

About an hour later, Wareham Harbormaster's assistants found the 3-year-old in Dick's Pond about 25 yards from the shore. The girl was unresponsive and was rushed to the shoreline, where paramedics attempted to resuscitate the child before taking her to Tobey Hospital. The girl was then flown to Boston Children's Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition Wednesday morning.

The Wareham Police Department, Onset Fire Department, Wareham EMS, Wareham Harbormaster Department and police K-9 units were dispatched to the trailer park to search for the girl. The Wareham Police Detective Division and Massachusetts State Police C-PAC unit are investigating the incident.
