Wednesday's Child: 9-Year-Old Averic

BOSTON (CBS) - Averic is a 9-year-old African-American boy who cares about his appearance and likes looking his best.

He is seeking a permanent home where he can finally belong. Quiet and reserved in new situations, Averic is able to form relationships once comfortable.

Averic has good self-help skills and can also be very helpful to others. Averic is a good eater and is in good health. In addition to going to the Boys and Girls Club, Averic enjoys playing outside, riding his bicycle, playing with his action figures and video games.

This second grader receives no special education services at this time. His conduct can be inconsistent in school, but his counselor states that overall he is polite and cooperative.

At home, Averic responds to strict and clear limits and benefits from a behavior management chart. Averic has experienced many losses in his life and will need time before he can trust a new caretaker.

Legally free for adoption, he would do best in a two-parent family, possibly with older children whom he could look up to as positive role models.

To learn more about Averic, and about adoption from foster care, call the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) at 617-54-ADOPT (617-542-3678) or visit www.MAREinc.org.

The sooner you call, the sooner a waiting child will have "a permanent place to call HOME."
