Lynch Makes It Clear He Has No Interest In Running For Boston Mayor

BOSTON (AP) — U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch is making clear that he has no intention of dropping his campaign for the U.S. Senate and instead trying to succeed Boston Mayor Thomas Menino.

Lynch, a Democrat from the South Boston neighborhood, said in a statement on Friday that a number of people had asked him over the past couple of days if he'd consider running for mayor. Menino announced on Thursday he would not seek a sixth term.

While grateful for the encouragement, Lynch said he wanted to be clear that he had no interest in the mayor's job and would remain as one of the candidates for a special election to fill the Senate seat formerly held by Secretary of State John Kerry.
