Patriots Sign WR Michael Jenkins

BOSTON (CBS) - The New England Patriots will have signed veteran wide receiver Michael Jenkins, the team announced. The deal was first reported by Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Jenkins, a nine-year veteran, played the last two seasons for the Minnesota Vikings. He caught 40 passed for 442 yards and two touchdowns in 2012, but was released this off-season for contractual reasons.

For his career, Jenkins has 25 touchdowns and 354 receptions for 4,427 yards. The 30-year-old has lost a step in recent years, but still played all 16 games for Minnesota in 2012 and is noted for having good hands.

Jenkins will likely sign for the veterans minimum, making this is more of a depth move for the Patriots. He'll join a new-look receiving core that includes new signings Danny Amendola and Donald Jones.

It is somewhat comical that when looking for an image of Jenkins, this sequence was one of the first in Getty Image's database:

To be fair, the Vikings did beat the Packers 37-34 in that game, and Jenkins had a key touchdown in the fourth quarter.
