Fugitive Team Arrests Revere Armed Robber Who Posed As Officer

REVERE (CBS) - The man police call a "serial armed robber" posing as a cop, was arrested by the State Police Fugitive Team Thursday morning in Maverick Square.

Police had been looking for Sandro Anaya after he failed to appear in court earlier this week.

Anaya was arrested on a warrant and is charged with impersonating a police officer among other offenses, a spokesman for the Suffolk County District Attorney said.

Anaya was convicted in 2011 of several armed robberies in which he pretended to be a policeman. He wore a badge and carried a BB gun that looked a lot like the weapons police carry.

Anaya was released from prison in February.

Saturday, Revere Police spotted him driving a stolen truck. When they pulled him over, he was wearing a badge and had the same BB gun and handcuffs. Anaya allegedly admitted to posing as a police officer, visiting violence on "the scum of the earth," and going on "patrol" in Boston, Chelsea, Lynn, Revere, and "everywhere." He allegedly implored the officers to join him in "looking for the real criminals."

Anaya was arrested and posted $1000 bail and was released.

He failed to report for his appearance in court Monday.

He was arraigned Thursday and held on $50,000 cash bail.
