BOSTON (CBS) -American runner Ryan Hall will not run the 2013 Boston Marathon, John Hancock Financial announced on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old Hall missed significant training time this year with a quad strain.

Hall confirmed the bad news over Twitter, saying “Heart breaking to have to pull out of Boston. Want to thank all my sponsors and supporters for sticking by me through it all.”

Hall set the American course record in Boston in 2011 with a 2:04:58 finish — good for fourth place in the race. In 2009, his first Boston Marathon, Hall finished third.

John Hancock says other cancellations in the men’s field include Moses Mosop, Shami Dawit, Eric Gillis and Lucas Rotich.
