BOSTON (CBS) — After Chris Kelly was the recipient of a knee-on-knee hit by Chris Neil on Monday night, the initial reports on Kelly’s health were positive. However on Wednesday afternoon, the Bruins dropped some seriously bad news.

Kelly suffered a broken left tibia on the play, and he will be out indefinitely.

Kelly has two goals and four assists on the Bruins’ third line, though his biggest value to the team has been on the penalty kill and at the faceoff dot (60.6 percent).

The 32-year-old Kelly played in all 82 games last season.

The Bruins currently have Lane MacDermid and Jay Pandolfo up with the team, but they’ll likely need to make a call or two to Providence to bolster their forward depth in a very busy stretch of the schedule.
