Boston Reacts To New Pope
BOSTON (CBS) - Catholics in Boston watched as Pope Francis I was introduced for the first time. Some were hoping that Boston Cardinal Sean O'Malley, who was rumored to be a frontrunner, would be the first American pope.

There is some disappointment among Cardinal Sean's local Capuchin brothers, but they are happy he got so much attention during his time in Rome.
"The attention Cardinal Sean has gotten is great for the church of Boston," says Franciscan Brother Matt Janeczko. "I really look forward to greeting him when he comes back here."

The colors of the Vatican were on display at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston. Pastoral Assistant Robert Travers says, "I'm a little disappointed, Cardinal O'Malley is a great man."

Catholic Craig Donahue says he is happy with the choice. "They take a lot of time and a lot of effort into making these decisions," he says. "No matter who it was, it was going to be the right decision. The Catholic faith needs a new direction I think."

Pope Francis I is the first Jesuit pope. At Boston College, which is run by Jesuits, there was great pride with the selection.
"I think he offers a discerning heart," says BC graduate theology student Mike Quinn. "He'll be really prayerful and very contemplative but he will also be about action. Jesuits are contemplatives in action, so he will really bring the two together I think in a really unique way."
