Spring Ahead!

BOSTON (CBS) - Literally! It is never easy springing ahead and losing an hour of sleep but sunset at 6:45 p.m. makes it all worth it!

Spring is only 10 days away and it is starting to feel like it. High pressure over us today with upper level ridging is making for a sunny day inland across New England with highs climbing into the upper 40's and Lwr 50's.

Gorgeous weather again inland. BUT, it is a different story across Eastern Mass. Low clouds have backed in off the water and will make for a cloudy day from the North Shore to the South Shore to the Cape.

Light NE-SE winds will combine with the cloud cover to make for a much cooler day without the sun with highs only in the 30's and lwr 40's. This time of year, any wind off the 40 degree ocean water can put a quick halt to any warming trend, and so today at least...the further away from the coast you are...the better the weather you will see.

High pressure pulls off the coast tonight with winds shift to SSE. Low clouds will continue to back in off the water for mostly cloudy skies and lows holding above freezing. Clouds will be in place Monday morning, but with enough upper level ridging, skies should begin to break Monday to partly sunny skies. Winds from the South and a little sunshine will mean temps will spike to near 50-55 degrees for many locations, including the coast of eastern Mass.

It will be cooler at our south-facing beaches. Any sun on Monday will quickly fade with an approaching cold front Tuesday. Mild SSW winds ahead of this front will keep a balmy feel in place with temps holding in the mid 50's. Considerable melting will continue.

Tuesday morning should be dry, breezy, cloudy and mild. Most of the showers will wait until the afternoon to push through. This front will be accompanied with briefly heavy downpours through Tuesday night. Up to a half to 1.5 inches of rain will fall with this frontal passage.

The cold front will be offshore by Wednesday, but the colder air will have yet to arrive.

Breaking sun with west winds will help to keep temps in the 40's to near 50 on Wednesday. A trough will be digging into the northeast to end the week steering in cooler than normal air with temperatures mostly in the 30's under breezy NW winds into the weekend with sun and clouds and the chance of a few flurries.
