'Bearded Bandit' Pleads Guilty To Robbing 9 Banks

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The man authorities called the "bearded bandit" has pleaded guilty to robbing nine banks in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

The U.S. Attorney's office in Rhode Island says 34-year-old Justin L. Worley pleaded guilty on Thursday in federal court in Providence to nine counts of bank robbery. He acknowledged stealing more than $32,000.

Authorities branded him the "bearded bandit" because he wore a fake beard during the robberies.

The first robbery was in Seekonk, Mass., in February of last year. The next eight robberies were in banks in Rhode Island between April and September.

Worley was arrested in September at a motel in Seekonk.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 24.
