BOSTON (CBS) – As the Washington Capitals were coming back to beat the Boston Bruins 4-3 in overtime on Tuesday night, there was talk of the Bruins being interested in Caps center Mike Ribeiro.
Despite a good stretch of hockey recently, the Capitals are currently second-to-last in the Eastern Conference, and could be looking to sell come the April 3 NHL trade deadline.
Senior writer for WashingtonCapitals.com Mike Vogel joined 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Toucher & Rich on Wednesday to talk about Vogel, and what he’d bring to any team down the stretch.
“Ribeiro just turned 33 last month but he’s been a revelation,” Vogel said of the veteran center. “He’s been great regardless of who he’s had on his line; he’s made them better. That to me is the mark of a good hockey player.”
“You see him every night, and you see he’s a little small and might be a perimeter player. He’s not that my any means,” Vogel said. “He’s a really good hockey player.”
This season, Ribeiro has eight goals and 17 assists for Washington. He has just one year remaining on his deal, making him a likely candidate to move.
“If the Caps wind up deciding to cut bait on him, and they only do so because his contract is up at the end of the year, there should be a good market for him,” said Vogel. “Any team looking for a pivot down the stretch and into the playoffs, Mike Ribeiro will be high on their list.”
