Red Sox Pitcher Drake Britton Arrested For DUI, Reckless Driving
BOSTON (CBS) -- Red Sox pitching prospect Drake Britton was arrested over the weekend for DUI, reckless driving and property damage.
Britton, 23, was arrested 4:42 a.m. early Saturday morning and was released at 10:41 a.m. on $2,250 bond.
The three charges are misdemeanors, and he is due in court on March 18.
The Boston Herald reported that Britton was driving as fast as 111 mph in a 45 mph zone. Britton reportedly drove off the road and through a fence, and he also "attempted to drive into the woods before finally coming to a stop."
When asked to show ID, Britton reportedly gave the officer a credit card.
Britton was among three cuts from the major league roster on Monday.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Red Sox released a statement on Britton.
"This is a matter that the Red Sox take very seriously, and it is being addressed," the team said in a release. "The club will not make further comment on this matter."
