CANTON (CBS) – Investigators say someone was shipping pot from San Jose, California to Canton.
“This is monumental,” said Canton Police Chief Ken Berkowitz as he stared at two massive piles of marijuana worth about a million dollars. “In my 20 years on the force, I’ve never seen anything like this.”
Canton Police detectives busted a New York man, Thomas Kim, and charged him with trafficking marijuana.
It all started last week when some very alert employees of R & L Carriers, a Canton-based shipping company, suspected something wasn’t right with some boxes being sent there from California. The man who picked them up paid cash.
They called detectives and when Kim took possession of the next batch of boxes, police arrested him with nearly 250 pounds of vacuum-sealed, high-grade marijuana.
When asked if Kim was a delivery person, or the owner, Chief Berkowitz said, “He’s a large scale trafficker.”
Now, federal agents are trying to trace the source of the drugs.
