Warren, Capuano Call Sequestration 'Stupid'
BOSTON (CBS) - Flanked by Mayor Tom Menino and Congressman Mike Capuano Monday, Sen. Elizabeth Warren spoke about the need to avoid sequestration in two weeks and the automatic federal budget cuts that could be devastating to medical research across the country.

The $85 billion in cuts are slated to go into effect March 1 and target government discretionary spending, including education and health care.
"I never thought I'd have to get good at describing why it is that we should not make stupid cuts," Warren said. "But that's what I'm going to work on and I'm going to get better at this as we put this question of sequestration to rest."
The politicians participated in a round table discussion at Boston Medical Center where they heard from some of the city's best medical professionals talking about the impact the cuts would have on their work.
Capuano also called the cuts 'stupid.'
"The sequester is not just stupid in this area, it is stupid across the board," Capuano said. "Yes, we have to tighten our belts but we should do it in a more thoughtful manner."
Capuano said while he believes Congress will address the issue, he doesn't think it will happen until after the cuts hit and the country starts to complain.
