This snowmobile struck a rock and launched into the air before landing in a ditch.
AUBURN, NH (CBS) – A snowmobile accident killed a father and hospitalized his son on Saturday afternoon.
Just after 4 p.m., police responded to reports of a snowmobile crash at Front Park near the Londonderry Turnpike.
The father was 41 years old and his son was only 9, police said.
Both were taken to Elliott Hospital, where the father was later pronounced dead.
Witnesses say the son was riding in the front of the vehicle when the crash happened. They also said both victims were wearing helmets, but the helmets came off when the vehicle hit the ground.
The incident is still under investigation, but the snowmobile appears to have struck a rock and been launched over 70 feet through the air before landing in a ditch.
Officials have no made any comment on the boy’s condition.
