Prosecutor: 'Bearded Bandit' To Plead Guilty
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Prosecutors say a 34-year-old man dubbed the "bearded bandit" has agreed to plead guilty in federal court to robbing eight banks in Rhode Island and one in Massachusetts.
The U.S. Attorney's office in Rhode Island says Justin Worley has agreed to plead guilty to nine counts of bank robbery. Worley will admit he robbed the banks of $32,633 by using implicit or explicit threats, including the threat of death in at least four instances.
The bank robberies in Rhode Island took place between April and September of last year. The robbery in Seekonk, Mass., was in February of last year.
Worley was arrested in September at a motel in Seekonk. Authorities said he had a fake beard.
He was indicted by a federal grand jury last year.
