SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Authorities in Springfield are investigating the apparent drowning of a 12-year-old boy at a middle school swimming pool.

Springfield police said the boy was found in the pool at about 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Kiley Middle School. He was pronounced dead at Baystate Medical Center.

Public Schools spokeswoman Azell Canavan said school officials also are investigating and details aren’t immediately available.
