Somerville Police Officer Rescues Chicken From Snow Bank

SOMERVILLE (CBS) - Instead of standing around asking the overdone age-old question about why the chicken crossed the road, a Somerville police officer jumped into action and saved that chicken from "certain peril," as Somerville police put it on their Facebook page.

It's not clear where the chicken came from, but Tuesday around 7 p.m., a Shaw's worker found it stuck in a snow bank in the supermarket's parking lot off Elm Street.

The worker called police, and one of the responding officers managed to pry the chicken from the icy grips of the snow pile.

Despite a few ruffled feathers, the chicken appeared in good health.

Officials tell WBZ-TV that the chicken was turned over to animal control, which is currently trying to find its owner.
