Lawrence Mayor's Driveway Cleared By City Contractor

LAWRENCE (CBS) - When others were buried under two feet of snow, Lawrence Mayor William Lantigua was getting his 100 foot driveway plowed by the same contractor hired by the city to clear the streets.

Photos taken by City Councilor Marc Laplante show the mayor on his driveway with two Department of Public Works officials.

"That contractor is receiving compensation from the city. What kind of influence is the mayor using to get a municipal contractor to get a Bobcat to come into a private residence? It raised eyebrows," Laplante said.

The Bobcat is owned by S&W Paving. Mayor Lantigua is seen talking to the DPW officials who were helping coordinate the city's response to the blizzard. Right now it's still unclear if the mayor paid to his have driveway plowed.

"Regardless of whether or not the mayor paid for the service, it gives the perception of impropriety," City Councilor Daniel Rivera said.

The DPW says although they used the same contractor, no piece of equipment that was hired by the city was used to plow the mayor's driveway. Calls made to the mayor's office did not get answered.
