Cardinal O’Malley: Fellow Cardinals Face ‘Challenging Decision’ Choosing Next Pope

BOSTON (CBS) – Cardinal Sean O’Malley will be among 117 cardinals who will meet at the Vatican next month to choose a pope to succeed retiring Pontiff Benedict The 16th.

O’Malley said Tuesday, that he will look for a man with strong communication skills.

“Someone who can communicate the joy of living their faith,” O’Malley said.

O’Malley said it would be wonderful if the next pope came from Latin America or Africa, places the church is strong and the population is growing.

When reporters asked whether O’Malley could be the next pope, he said probably not.

“I haven’t lost any sleep about it and I have bought a round trip ticket so I’m counting on coming home,” he said.
