Wednesday's Chlid: 13-Year-Old Veronica

BOSTON (CBS) - Veronica, 13, is a sweet girl of Hispanic descent who can be very talkative and sociable once she is comfortable with someone. Initially, she is very shy with new people. Veronica is diagnosed with mild mental retardation and attends school in a specialized classroom. She has the ability to learn and would thrive in a female-centered household that could encourage her to reach her full potential. Veronica is hoping her forever family would share in some of her interests.

Veronica is a "girl's girl" and likes having her hair done with bows and other accessories, playing dress-up and playing with her American Girl doll. In her free time, Veronica also likes playing with her Nintendo DS, listening to music on her iPod and going swimming when she can. She has also tried both ice and roller skating and enjoyed them both.

Legally free for adoption, Veronica would do best in a nurturing single or two-parent female family with possibly an older sister if there were other children in the home. A family that is open to birth family contact would be ideal.

To learn more about Veronica, and about adoption from foster care, call the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) at 617-54-ADOPT (617-542-3678) or visit www.MAREinc.org. The sooner you call, the sooner a waiting child will have "a permanent place to call HOME."
