BAA 5K Registration Set For Monday

BOSTON – The Boston Athletic Association on Thursday announced that registration for the B.A.A. 5K will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 4, 2013.

The Fifth B.A.A. 5K will be held at 8 a.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2013, one day before the 117th Boston Marathon.

Registration will be held online at www.baa.org and will be limited to 6,500 entrants. The cost to register is $45 (USD) and participants must be at least 10 years of age to register.

This year, the B.A.A. has announced a slightly modified course for the B.A.A. 5K. The starting line will now be located near 500 Boylston Street between Clarendon and Berkeley Streets. Following a scenic tour through Boston's Back Bay and Beacon Hill neighborhoods, the course extends farther west toward Kenmore Square before turning back toward Copley Square. The race will once again finish at the Boston Marathon finish line in Copley Square Park.

A prize purse of nearly $25,000 is at stake in the B.A.A. 5K. Prize money will be distributed to the top 10 runners overall, the top three in the masters division, and the top three in the push rim wheelchair division. Prize money awards are equal for men and women and are based upon gun time results. The men's and women's B.A.A. 5K champions will each receive $4,000.
