Northboro Police Investigate String Of Daytime Break-Ins

NORTHBORO (CBS) - Northboro residents are making sure all their doors are locked after a string of robberies have taken place in the town known for its quiet tranquil setting.

"It's very surprising. Northboro doesn't have this problem this is unique," resident Joe Lavalle said.

At least 12 homes have been broken into this past month, including an elderly resident who was home alone in her bed at the time.

"It's frightening to think that someone has invaded your privacy and it's hurtful," the resident said.

The woman called 911 and a neighbor came to her rescue as the burglar fled the scene. Her back door was kicked-in and caused a lot of damage.

"This is an increase for us. We've seen a spike in house break-ins and they're targeting jewelry," Sgt. Brian Griffin said.

Police say most of the burglaries have been taking place during the day hours when homeowners are at work. The crook usually kicks in the back door and heads straight for the master bedroom.

"I am double locking all my doors and keeping my lights on," the elderly resident said. Right now police have no leads on the suspect.
