On Our Way Up...

We are heading out of a deep freeze that lasted about a week but as we do so, an icy wintry mix is creating dangerous driving conditions.  A warmfront is off to our south and won't slip through until Wednesday morning. Until it passes temps will only get marginally warmer as we creep above freezing tomorrow.

Temps will be below freezing tonight however and with the warmth riding over the cold air in place, snow, sleet and freezing rain has broken out.  The precip has become more sporadic but with warming aloft precip type has transitioned from snow to sleet and freezing rain at times.  This will create a crust on top of the snow and an icy coating on everything else.  After midnight the showers will taper to pockets of drizzle and freezing drizzle.

By Wednesday, the atmosphere will be in full warm-up mode...strong southerly winds will be cranking at many levels of the atmosphere including the all important surface where we live!  Temps will climb into the 50s and maybe even 60 degrees if we can manage a little sunshine.  The thaw will be short-lived as a potent coldfront will pass through early Thursday morning with a line of downpours and possibly rumbles of thunder then much colder air for the end of the week and upcoming weekend.
