The GRAMMYs’ Song of the Year category honors the very best in songwriting — and for the 55th Annual Awards, that includes the Canadian team who penned Carly Rae Jepsen’s“Call Me Maybe.” What you may not have known: Jepsen herself wrote most of the lyrics. So, when you went around all summer humming that song? It was actually Carly Rae Jepsen’s fault it got stuck in your head in the first place. O, Canada!
Jepsen herself didn’t expect the nomination and told B96/Chicago, “The night before I got kind of hopeful!”
She was almost sorely let down — when she looked on the wrong website and thought she’d lost out on any GRAMMY nominations. Eventually she found her way to GRAMMY.com and found out the Academy had, in fact, taken her number and called her. No maybes.
