New Bedford School Van Driver Stabbed In Alleged Road Rage Attack

NEW BEDFORD (CBS) - A 19-year-old is behind bars after what police are calling a road rage attack.

A Roosevelt Middle School van driver had several students in his van Wednesday afternoon when police say Aaron Maldonado slashed the driver's throat and face with a knife.

According to court records, Maldonado took a wide turn at the intersection of Hemlock and Dunbar streets, sparking an argument. The two drivers made gestures and got into an altercation in the street.

Witnesses told WBZ-TV they ran to the scene to help the 39-year-old van driver. The driver was bloody but trying to make sure the students were OK, witnesses said.

The driver was taken to the hospital and needed stitches.

Maldonado was arraigned Thursday and is being held while prosecutors move to revoke his bail on previous drug and assault charges.
