A Quincy cobbler is calling it quits.
QUINCY (CBS) – After decades in business, a longtime staple on Hancock Street in Quincy is closing up shop for good.
On Saturday, for the final time, Stefan Gurgian shut the doors to his shoe repair business, Marelli Shoe Repair, which, for the past decade, was the only remaining cobbler in Quincy.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030′s Kim Tunnicliffe reports
It might be cliché to call the business’ closing a sign of the times. But Gurgian says the fact is that shoes aren’t made the way they used to be.
He blames manufacturers for a deteriorating quality of shoe, which makes them much harder to fix.
Asked what he’ll do now, Gurgian joked that he’d sleep more.
“It’s not easy. I worked my whole life,” he said.
