Police: 'Kleptomaniac' Stole MBTA Worker's Bag, Threw It Into Fort Point Channel

BOSTON (CBS) - A self-admitted Kleptomanic is behind bars after she allegedly swiped an MBTA worker's belongings out of an inspector's booth at South Station and threw them into Fort Point Channel.

Police say Friday night around 10 p.m., an MBTA worker was walking back to the booth when he saw Nyllabrii Raikou, 20, of Boston rummaging around inside the booth.

The worker, seeing his personal bag had been taken, started chasing Raikou and radioed to Transit Police.

Raikou took off out of South Station. As officers closed in on her, she allegedly tossed the bag into Fort Point Channel.

The bag, which contained the worker's cell phone, personal items, and a radio battery, was not recovered.

Police say swift currents in the channel prevented them from reaching the bag.

Officers arrested Raikou for Larceny. Police say she admitted to the theft.

"I couldn't help it. I'm a Kleptomaniac," she reportedly told officers.

Raikou is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on Monday.
