State Police said 18-year-old Reishaun Michael Hopkins, of Malden, was apparently trying to walk or run across the northbound side of the highway near Exit 21 around 6:30 a.m. when he was hit by a car.

The impact threw him across the median into the southbound lanes where he was hit by another vehicle.

He died at the scene.

Police say Hopkins was employed by Honeydew Donuts located in the Newton rest area and normally scheduled to work the day shift.

As of this point, no charges have been filed. The first call reporting the crash was received at 6:33 a.m. The location was Route 95 north of Exit 21.

After the incident, state troopers blocked off the high speed lane on the southbound side near where a black, economy-sized car was parked.  It's not clear yet what role, if any, the car played in the accident.

The investigation not only delayed traffic in both directions on 128, it also caused backups on the Massachusetts Turnpike.

The scene was cleared around 9:45 a.m.
